Don Williams did Texas proud when he brought us the melancholy, yet inspirational song “Lord I Hope This Day Is Good”. It’s no wonder Williams is known as the Gentle Giant of Country Music, what with his smooth baritone and gentle tone, that we can especially hear in this memorable performance from 1982.

“Lord I Hope This Day Is Good” was released in 1981 off of Williams’ Especially For You album. His twelfth #1, it stayed at the spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart for a solid week. A notable cover version was done by Lee Ann Womack on her I Hope You Dance album in 2000.

Though this song has a woeful tone to the lyrics, it also gives one hope that God will, in fact, make your day better. This classic country singing Texan really embodies this mixture of emotions, making us feel the sorrow, but hope too, as he performs the bittersweet tune with his soft, yet deep vocals.

Throw it back to this one-of-a-kind performance from 1982 and you won’t be able to stop singing along. Who knows, it may just brighten up your day if you’re feeling a little downtrodden.

LORD I HOPE THIS DAY IS GOOD LYRICS

Lord, I hope this day is good
I’m feelin’ empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful Lord, I know I should
But Lord, I hope this day is good

Lord, have you forgotten me?
I’ve been prayin’ to you faithfully
I’m not sayin’ I’m a righteous man
But Lord, I hope you understand

I don’t need fortune and I don’t need fame
Send down the thunder Lord, send down the rain
But when you’re planning just how it will be
Plan a good day for me

Lord, I hope this day is good
I’m feelin’ empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful Lord, I know I should
But Lord, I hope this day is good

You’ve been the King since the dawn of time
All that I’m asking is a little less criying
It might be hard for the devil to do
But it would be easy for you

Lord, I hope this day is good
I’m feelin’ empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful Lord, I know I should
But Lord, I hope this day is good
