Pulled from the archives, this footage will give you a unique glimpse into Conway Twitty‘s early years.

Making an appearance on the Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show in January 1959, Dick Clark excitedly announces his surprise guest: Conway Twitty. You can hear the audience roar in the background before Clark finishes saying his name.

“It’s Only Make Believe” was Twitty’s first hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard chart instantly. The track gained success by happenstance: an Ohio radio station played the “B” side of his first single’s record on air.

Twitty’s amazing success would continue and he would see 55 of his songs reach No. 1 including his best-known hit “Hello Darlin'”. He was the only artist, at the time, to achieve such an accomplishment.

Any true Conway Twitty fan will gush over this stunning time-worn footage.
