$725 Million Texas Ranch Finally Sold, But Who Bought It?
on Feb 09, 2016
The iconic Waggoner Ranch in Texas has been on the market for over a year.
It has been owned by the same family since 1849, so we understand their reluctance to sell right away. Also, it was listed for $725 million dollars.
Now if you think that’s lot of money, it is. But, the land is very large as well.
To put how large the property actually is in perspective, the 535,000 acre ranch, which spans over six counties and almost 800 square miles, is bigger than the city of New York.
Representatives of the sale announced on Tuesday (Feb. 9) that they will be moving forward with a purchase.
Sports mogul and rancher Stan Kroenke has been approved to purchase the iconic ranch. Kroenke is reportedly worth $7.3 billion dollars and is well-known for owning the Los Angeles Rams (NFL), Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Rapids (MLS), and Colorado Mammoth (National Lacrosse League).
He has previously called the ranch a “uniquely American treasure.“
In a statement, he said, “This is an incredible opportunity and an even greater responsibility. We are honored to assume ownership of the Waggoner – a true Texas and American landmark – and are deeply committed to continuing the proud legacy of W.T. “Tom” Waggoner, his family and his descendants”
The ranch also includes thousands of cattle, hundreds of horses, oil wells, and 30,000 acres of farmland. It is the largest single ranch under one fence in the entire country.
