Vince Gill announced a new solo album, Down To My Last Bad Habit, on November 19th and we have been patiently waiting for the release, which is on February 12.
He has been slowly revealing a couple of the twelve songs on the album. He debuted “Take Me Down” shortly after the album announcement and on Tuesday (Feb. 9), he debuted another.
Gill wasn’t planning on singing “Sad One Comin’ On” during the Country Radio Seminar luncheon at The Ryman, but Chris Stapleton inspired him to sing it.
“Watching Chris really inspired me to sing this song,” he told the crowd. “It’s a song I wrote in tribute to the great George Jones, and I just felt like, standing over in the wings, watching him sing may be the first time some people got to hear his voice, it reminded me of what it must have been like the first time we heard George Jones sing.”
With just his guitar, Gill accompanied himself in this beautiful, yet sad song about Jones.
Gill is excited about his new album and says it is his best yet.
“People always say their newest album is the best they’ve ever made. That should be the case. You should get better at this. So hopefully, this is the best record I’ve ever done. My ears do tell me I’m singing better than I ever have, playing better than ever and writing better songs,” he told USA Today.
