Blake Shelton Admits This A-List Celebrity Helped Him Survive Divorce

Academy Of Country Music

The longtime Voice coach and No. 1 country artist opened up about how he made it through, what some have called, his roughest summer yet.

Being a mentor for many upcoming artists, Blake Shelton spoke with Dan Van during a pre-show session about who his mentor is and how that person has helped him – in many parts of his life.

In July 2015, a press release announced that Shelton and Miranda Lambert were filing divorce after spending four years married, and eight total years together. Undoubtedly, this departure from what they planned together as a couple, would be a tough time for both – as they revealed in a statement to media.

This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy heart that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real family, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

During his pre-show lounge session, Shelton spoke very candidly about that time in his life and how his longstanding mentor was there to help see him through it.

Revealing his mentor was fellow country star, Trace Adkins, the singer called him a “guy’s guy” and that he was who he turns to for questions. He followed that up, admitting that Trace has a softer side…

“Anytime I had a question or needed a shoulder, Trace was the guy that was always there for me,” Blake confessed.

“Last summer was obviously a rough summer, but the day that we knew the press release was going out that Miranda and I had gotten a divorce, Trace was the guy whom met me in Oklahoma and flew with me to LA and stayed with me for about three days,” he continued. “That’s the kind of guy Trace is, people don’t know that but he’s just a good dude.

It’s great to know that Shelton has a great friend by his side and someone he can turn to in times of need.
