During an emotional interview, the beloved actress and wife of country music star opens up about her husband’s battle with alcoholism – and how she was able to be there for him.

One of many recent interviews discussing her legacy as an actress, her 10th wedding anniversary, and of course, her latest masterpiece film, Lion, Nicole Kidman also was prompted for information about husband, Keith Urban, and his battle with alcoholism.

Speaking one-on-one with BBC Radio 4’s Jenni Murray, Kidman spoke openly about her family life, wanting more children, and then the conversation quickly turned to her husband, and thereby, his struggle with addiction.

When first asked about it, she snapped back with reluctance and caution, saying, “God, you guys are personal!”

After a brief pause, the actress continued with the interview, answering all of Murray’s questions with poise and honesty.

“That’s for him to talk about. He’s always said that I can talk about it publicly because he’s very much about helping people. I think us as our coupling and our marriage is an example of working our way through it with an outcome where you can be together and he’s sober and very happy.”

Kidman also opened up about helping see Urban through the difficult times, and explained how she views the experience, including a very valuable lesson.

“I’m obviously very much involved in supporting and loving and I know a lot about it, but it’s not something I can put into a catchphrase other than I don’t believe you can save a person. They can save themselves.
