After Revealing She Suffered 6 Miscarriages, Nancy Kerrigan Dedicates Emotional Dance To Her Kids

For as long as figure skating champion Nancy Kerrigan could remember, she always wanted three kids by the time she was 30. It’s what her mom did, and when she married her husband, Jerry Soloman, in 1995, they started planning their family.

They had a son, Matthew, in 1996 and not long after he was born, they wanted to expand their family even more. Kerrigan got pregnant again, but unfortunately miscarried.

“It was pretty awful. You feel guilty, and, like, what did you do wrong?” she says through tears. “It makes you feel like a failure.”

She revealed to her Dancing With The Stars partner, Artem Chigvintsev, that she had 6 miscarriages in 8 years, which made the silver medal figure skater tear up.

“It was really hard, actually. It almost felt shameful because I couldn’t do it on my own,” she recalled. In 2005, the couple turned to in vitro fertilization and had a son, Brian.

“I think more than joy and love, I think I was relieved, like he was okay,” Kerrigan said about her feelings when Brian was born. A few years later, Soloman and Kerrigan welcomed a daughter, Nicole.

Kerrigan dedicated her dance to her husband, and her three children.

“We fought hard for this family, and I want to say to my kids through this dance, ‘Never give up, keep trying’,” she said.

Set to the tune of Rascal Flatts’ song “My Wish”, Kerrigan and Chigvintsev beautifully foxtrotted around a “tree of life”, telling her story through dance.

Kerrigan is the perfect example for anyone struggling with something that there is joy and happiness after heartbreak. Thank you, Nancy and Artem, for sharing this story through dance.
