In the early 2000s, Alan Jackson wrote what is without a doubt, one of the most meaningful and reflective songs in country music history. That song went on to become “Remember When,” which Jackson took to the top of the charts.

“Remember When” follows Jackson’s relationship with his wife, Denise. Through the lyrics, he looks back on the early stages of their relationship and their three daughters’ childhoods.

Then, he looks toward the future, singing of how they’ll look back on those early days and “remember when.”

Following its release, Billboard called “Remember When” “the most poignant, well written country song to hit the format in a long time.” That description remains true today, as Jackson continues to move thousands with the song whenever he performs it during one of his shows.

Such was the case in 2015 when Jackson sang “Remember When” during a concert at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. Every time Jackson performs the song, he can’t keep himself from getting emotional, and that was true for his San Diego performance.

Appearing a bit misty-eyed, Jackson moved through each emotional phase of “Remember When.” By the time he brought the song to a close, the entire crowd was cheering to show how much they enjoyed his performance.

“Remember When” is one of those timeless songs that has the power to move an audience of thousands. Tune in to the video below to see Jackson’s touching performance of the song in San Diego.

You may want to keep the tissues close, because this song has always tugged at the heartstrings.
