In May 2016, some of Jimmy Buffett‘s biggest fans piled into the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tennessee to escape with him to “Margaritaville.”
But little did they know that Buffet had a huge surprise in store for them during the show.
Waiting behind the scenes was none other than Alan Jackson, who gave Buffett’s fans an experience they’re sure to never forget. No one had any idea Jackson was there, so it’s no shock that the audience absolutely lost it when they saw him standing in front of them on stage.
Their excitement only grew as Jackson started singing the first few words to his mega hit duet with Buffett, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”
What makes this performance notable is the fact that Jackson and Buffett have rarely performed the song together live. However, it still remains as one of the biggest hits of both of their careers. When it was released it not only topped the Billboard country charts, but crossed over to claim the 17th spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jackson took the lead on most of the song, while Buffett was more than happy to stand back and jam along on his guitar.
But Jackson wasn’t ever singing alone. The entire crowd joined in with him, especially on the chorus, during which they sang at the top of their lungs.
It’s clear from the smiles on Buffett and Jackson’s faces that they enjoyed reuniting for their fan-favorite duet. You can also tell from the overwhelming cheers coming from the crowd that the performance was the definite highlight of their night.
Once the song wrapped up, Jackson disappeared as quickly as he came, leaving fans with memories they’ll likely treasure for a lifetime.
