Alison Krauss Sweetly Honors Glen Campbell With Angelic ‘Gentle On My Mind’

Country music icon Alison Krauss treated CBS This Morning to a heavenly live performance of a timeless, Glen Campbell favorite. Although simply dressed, the singer’s voice was anything but as her sweet, and often unforgettable, vocals softly initiated her tribute.

Backed by her musical entourage, the singer was a vision of remarkable talent and beauty as she angelically sang, “And it’s knowin’ I’m not shackled/ By forgotten words and bonds/ And the ink stains that have dried upon some line/ That keeps you in the back roads/ By the rivers of my memory/ That keeps you ever gentle on my mind.” Krauss’ passion and extreme emotion ran throughout each verse, chilling viewers and eliciting a range of similar emotions.

Krauss chose to rerecord this exceptional ballad for her newest album Windy City, paying her respects to Campbell with her remarkable gift. Although Campbell’s rendition brought fame and success to both the crooner and the tune, the country singer was mesmerized upon hearing songwriter John Hartford’s musical rendition. Although not the original singer, Campbell’s perseverance prevailed, as he recorded the hit and made history.
