Ben Haggard brings his father back to life with a perfect rendition of Merle‘s 1994 song, “Way Back in the Mountains.”

Ben is the youngest of three sons to the late country music legend. The talented young artist played guitar for his father up until the untimely death of The Hag in April of 2016. Following Merle’s passing, Ben, then 23, and his brothers finished out the remaining stops of their father’s final tour.

As many do, the great country singer sensed when he was nearing the end of his life. Ben shared on his Instagram account that a week before his passing his father asked him to keep his legacy alive. The country music legend told his son that singing his songs is his birthright, and no one has the right to tell him otherwise, and lucky for fans, Ben has been doing just that.

“Way Back in the Mountains” was co-written by Merle and Max D. Barnes, originally recorded by The Hag in 1994.
