Uploading a photo that he suggests proves the driver was attempting to get him fired from his gig at this local county fair, Blake Shelton ribbed him publicly on social media in a throwback photo from his twenties.

Shelton, who has had a longstanding relationship with NASCAR and many drivers, clearly has always been a big supporter of the sport – and that dates back to when he still had a mullet and was playing smaller gigs at local county fairs.

At this particular performance, Shelton was joined on stage by Elliott Sadler who drives the Xfinity Series No. 1 Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s co-owned racing team, JR Motorsports, and competes part-time in the NASCAR Cup Series with the No. 7 Chevrolet for Tommy Baldwin Racing.

The photo in question, taken probably close to two decades ago, shows a mullet-rocking Shelton standing center stage and Sadler sitting off to the side drinking a beer. In the caption of the photo, Shelton explains how Sadler was trying to get him fired and exactly how the photo proves it.

“Many MANY years ago Elliott Sadler tried to get me fired from a ‘no alcohol’ county fair I was playing,” Shelton says comically under the photo, tagging Sadler’s Twitter handle.

While Shelton is clearly having a bit of fun with this recently un-earthed photo from his early days, Sadler also was up for some playful banter and shot back his own response – revealing that it was actually Shelton’s beer!
