Blake Shelton took a step out of his comfort zone after spotting a man holding up his phone in the audience at the Bayou Country Superfest in New Orleans this past Sunday. The sentimental country singer decided to do his part in honor of those who have sacrificed this past Memorial Day by helping a marine ask the question of a lifetime.

“This guy up here has been holding up his phone to me every damn time I walk by, making me feel guilty, and it worked,” Blake said. “I guess I’m getting soft in my old age.”

After asserting he never does these kinds of things because “you never quite know how it will turn out,” Shelton decided to help the man out. Throughout the singer’s entire set, U.S. Marine Brannon LeBouef was desperately trying to get the singer’s attention, wanting to ask for help proposing to his unsuspecting girlfriend Ashley.

“I don’t normally do this,” the singer said after handing the spotlight over to Brannon and his girlfriend. “Here you go man. You’re on the big screen. Let’s see what you got.”

The man then gets on one knee to ask for Ashley’s hand in marriage as the crowd erupted into applause. After confirming that Ashley had indeed said yes, the country singer said the only person who would propose at a country concert is surely a “redneck” as the music for his hit song “Boys Round Here” began to play.
