Blake Shelton Says The Truth ‘Stings’ In New Song

For years now, Blake Shelton has been churning out hit after hit, after hit. The songs on his new album are no different.

If I’m Honest was released in May 2016, but the first single was released two months prior. “Came Here To Forget” hit No. 1, making it his 22nd chart-topper and 17th consecutive No. 1 hit.

His next single, “Savior’s Shadow” was released to Christian radio and has been extremely successful.

Months before the release of his third single, “She’s Got A Way With Words”, there were rumors that this song would be a sort of dig at his ex-wife, Miranda Lambert.

Shelton’s not saying it is, but he’s also not saying it isn’t.

“It’s just an absolutely no-bones-about-it true, heartbreaking, beer-drinking type lyric,” he says. “In fact, it’s so true it stings a little bit and at the same time it’s funny. It’s one of the funniest songs I’ve ever heard in my life.”

While comical, the lyrics do sting, but like the title of his album, Shelton’s just being honest.

Lyrics to “She’s Got A Way With Words” include:

“She put the her in hurt
She put the why in try
She put the SOB in sober
She put the hang in hangover
She put the x in sex
She put the low in blow
She put a big FU in my future”.

Shelton knew he wanted to include it on an album, so much so that he held on to the song for two years before he recorded it.

I couldn’t be more excited about it because I think it’s the kind of song that country music is built on,” Shelton said. And he couldn’t be more true.

Country music is unique because its so brutally honest, and that’s what Shelton is trying to do.
