Country music didn’t know what it was in for when best buddies Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins teamed up to record a song together. That song was the rowdy “Hillbilly Bone,” which boldly asserts that every person has a bit of a hillbilly side to them.
The song’s upbeat tempo and fiery lyrics appealed to listeners far and wide. Plus, the addition of Adkins’ deep baritone as the accompanying voice to Shelton’s resulted in a combined sound that no one could resist.
Needless to say, “Hillbilly Bone” caught on like wildfire, and the song snagged the top spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart following its release in 2009. The song was also a crossover success, claiming the 40th spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
The two friends have occasionally reunited to perform their hit song. In the past, Adkins has stopped by Shelton’s shows to surprise his fans by singing “Hillbilly Bone” along with him.
Those who turned out to watch Shelton perform during the CMA Music Fest in June were in for such a surprise. What the packed crowd at Nissan Stadium didn’t know is that Adkins was waiting in the wings while Shelton sang the opening to “Hillbilly Bone.”
Adkins finally made his entrance when it came time for him to start singing as well. Shelton fed off of the excitement as Adkins strolled out on stage, instantly increasing the rambunctious nature of the song.
The crowd started cheering once Adkins made his way to Shelton at the center of the stage. They had to know that they were in for one awesome performance from that moment on!
When it comes to the most memorable moments from the 2017 CMA Music Fest, Shelton and Adkins’ “Hillbilly Bone” duet is definitely at the top of the list. If you weren’t able to see it in person then you’re in luck, because you can catch it in the video below!
We love it whenever these two share the stage. Maybe they’ll reunite for another duet soon!
