Two of the biggest names in country music teamed up for a tear-jerking duet to one of the saddest songs to ever grace the genre. Brad Paisley enlisted a young Carrie Underwood for a breathtaking duet to the tune of his 2003 hit “Whiskey Lullaby” back in 2006 at the final show of their tour together.

At the beginning of the performance, Paisley sat alone with his acoustic guitar before Underwood appeared on stage for the second chorus, her powerful voice met with a wild round of applause. The two carried out the remainder of the performance on separate parts of the stage, creating a metaphor for the melancholy message of the song.

“Whiskey Lullaby” tells the story of a man and woman destroyed by their failed relationship, seeking whiskey to help ease their pain by putting the bottle to their head” and pulling “the trigger.” The song was originally recorded by Paisley and Alison Krauss, hitting No.3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs as well as No.41 on the all genre Hot 100.
