Carrie Underwood Is Pure Perfection In Teaser Trailer For New ‘Sunday Night Football’ Theme

NBC Sports

With summer quickly coming to a close, people are preparing for fall and everything associated with it. Colorful leaves, apple picking, sitting around bonfires, and of course, football.

For the past five seasons NBC’s Sunday Night Football has been the highest-rated prime time series on television. Those who have followed the series from day one are sure to notice something different this season when it comes to the show’s theme, which has been completely revamped.

Since 2006, the theme song for Sunday Night Football has been “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which was set to the tune of Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” P!nk and Faith Hill sang the theme prior to Carrie Underwood, who took on the role singing for Sunday Night Football in 2013.

But this season the theme is getting a complete reboot, and is now set to the tune of one of Underwood’s own songs, her 2014 duet with Miranda Lambert “Somethin’ Bad.” Called “Oh, Sunday Night,” Underwood worked with the “Somethin’ Bad” songwriters to rework the song, after she had the idea to make a new football theme out of it during the off-season.

When we got into the recording studio in Nashville, the song instantly came to life, and will be a dynamic addition to our show,” said Fred Gaudelli, who is the executive producer of Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football.

Underwood was equally excited for the addition of the new theme, saying, “I love being part of the Sunday Night Football family and can’t wait for the fans to hear the new theme song.

Well now, fans finally have the chance to hear part of the new theme song for the first time. NBC Sports released a teaser trailer of the new theme on Monday (August 8), which shows Underwood standing under a spotlight and singing what is likely the song’s chorus, “oh, Sunday night.

The footage of Underwood is placed between signature football images such as the stadium lights and players walking out on the field.

Even though the clip is only 15 seconds long, the way it is put together and Underwood’s stunning vocal performance makes for pure perfection. Check it out for yourself below.

We can’t wait to hear the rest of Underwood’s new Sunday Night Football theme. If it’s as good as this short teaser trailer, then we know we’ll love it!
