Country music is full of hundreds of incredible duets, with everything from girl power anthems to romantic duets. But one of the most iconic country duets of all time deals with themes of heartbreak and jealousy.
Originally recorded as a duet between Reba McEntire and Linda Davis, “Does He Love You” was a number one hit in both the U.S. and the UK. It is also one of the most-awarded songs of McEntire’s life, and won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration.
To honor this iconic duet, CMT included it in its 2005 special, 100 Greatest Duets. In fact, it was ranked at the 9th spot on the list, so in order to celebrate, two talented female vocalists took to the stage to perform their own rendition of the classic.
Fresh off of her American Idol win, Carrie Underwood sang the part of the mistress in the song, while “There Is No Arizona” singer Jamie O’Neal took on the part of the wife. The two started off on separate ends of the stage, before the finally merged together to take their places front and center.
Each of their individual parts were flawless, but when the two of them brought their voices together the result was nothing short of breathtaking. O’Neal’s soulful voice was perfectly complimented by Underwood’s soaring vocals, and their harmonies were pure magic.
But what truly pushed the performance over the top was the amount of passion they put into each and every word.
O’Neal and Underwood had some big shoes to fill when it came to singing “Does He Love You,” but we’d say they had no trouble at all! Check out their beautiful performance in the video below.
We would love to see these two collaborate again sometime, wouldn’t you?
