Carrie Underwood Reveals What She Feels Guilty About As A Mom

Almost two years into motherhood, Carrie Underwood is getting candid about raising her son on the road.

Underwood and her husband, hockey star Mike Fisher, welcomed their son, Isaiah, on February 27, 2015. Not even a year after he was born, Underwood announced her Storyteller Tour, her first in three years.

The tour began January 30, 2016 and runs until November 28, 2016. During this time, Fisher was in season and traveling a lot as well, so Underwood decided to take Isaiah on the road with her.

One of the biggest things Underwood has learned as a mom is to “ask for help”.

“Accepting help is hard for me, but I’m learning,” she tells Redbook. “Sometimes I feel guilty that this is my son’s life: We live on a bus and we’re in a hotel room and sometimes we’re in the middle of nowhere and it’s not so great. It’s not all glamorous.”

While living on a bus isn’t the ideal situation for her son, it’s something that won’t last forever. Her tour will be over before she knows it and will be back home to the normal life she envisioned for her Isaiah. Where Fisher is in his career helps her feel at ease as well.

“If my husband were at the beginning of his career, I’m not sure we could handle it. Since he’s kind of nearing the end and won’t be traveling so much, we’re like, ‘We can figure it out for not that long.’ You make it work,” she says. “When I was pregnant, I thought, ‘How am I going to go on the road? How am I going to keep doing my job?’ I had to just give it to God and stop worrying about it. Sure enough, we figured it out.”

Underwood has proved time and time again that she is an incredible mother, from taking Isaiah to Sesame Place, to changing up her post-show routine. Take a listen to “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted”, a song dedicated to her husband and her son.
