History Behind “I Will Always Love You”

Dolly Parton‘s “I Will Always Love You” is one of the most-beloved songs of all time.

When Parton released the song in 1974, it was a number one country hit, and was later picked up and covered by R&B singer Whitney Houston. Her version of the song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the charts in multiple countries around the world.

Many people have covered “I Will Always Love You” since Parton and Houston released their versions of the song. But few have been able to move listeners nearly as much.

But one particular country artist is an exception…Carrie Underwood.

Underwood has performed “I Will Always Love You” many times before. She even included it as a part of her Storyteller tour setlist. Underwood also performed the song as a duet with Parton in 2011, which truly proved how well she could sing it.

During an appearance on the Bobby Bones radio show back in 2016, Underwood turned to the famous song yet again for an acoustic performance as part of the show’s special “Joy Week.”

Underwood’s performance of the song is heartfelt and sincere. She starts off singing at almost a near whisper, showing off the sweetness in her voice. But the moments that will truly take your breath away are when she hits the high, powerful notes with a beautiful level of strength and sound.

She closes out the performance singing softly yet again, but not before she raises her voice to flawlessly hit a note that many people could only dream of singing.

Underwood has received an overwhelming amount of praise for her performance of the song, and you’ll have to tune in below to see why. We guarantee she’ll give you chills.

We have a feeling Parton is quite proud of Underwood for performing such a beautiful rendition of her song!
