History Behind Kenny Chesney’s Fastest-Rising Single

We’re sure you’re familiar with Kenny Chesney‘s number one hit from 2007, titled “Never Wanted Nothing More.”

The song was released as the first single off of his album Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates. After all of this time, it is still his fastest-climbing number one single.

In addition to hitting number one on the Billboard country charts, “Never Wanted Nothing More” also reached the 22nd position on the Billboard Hot 100. To this date, “Never Wanted Nothing More” remains one of Chesney’s biggest crossover hits.

Of course, Chesney’s performance of “Never Wanted Nothing More” played a huge part in its success. But if it hadn’t been for the songwriters behind the song, then it never would have existed in the first place.

The Songwriters Behind The Success

“Never Wanted Nothing More” was co-written by Ronnie Bowman and a man country music knows well by now…Chris Stapleton.

As a songwriter, “Never Wanted Nothing More” is one of the best-performing singles that Stapleton has ever penned.

It bought me a house,” Stapleton said during a songwriters’ showcase in 2012. “Thanks Kenny Chesney.”

Getting Into The Performance

After that, Stapleton moved into an all-acoustic performance of the song. We’ve heard “Never Wanted Nothing More” hundreds of times, but listening to Stapleton sing it makes it sound brand new.

Stapleton’s love for the song shows through clear as day in this performance. You can’t help but smile as you watch him sing it, knowing how much the song means to him.

Tune in below to watch Stapleton offer his take on “Never Wanted More.” We’ll never cease to be amazed by this man!
