Cody Johnson Pays Tribute To George Strait With Cover Of ‘You Look So Good In Love’

Independent country artist Cody Johnson is making waves with his unconventional approach to country music. His latest album, Gotta Be Me, was released on his own independent label and reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts. But, Johnson has made it clear that being an independent artist doesn’t mean that he’s taking a stand against Nashville.

“I talked to different labels and different labels approached us. It’s kind of like a courtship with a girl because you have to be compatible, it has to work for both sides,” Johnson said in a recent interview. “I’ve prayed about it a lot and I’ve sat back and let the good Lord take care of the situation. We did so much as far as numbers that it didn’t work out to sign as a label.”

The approach has worked for the Texas native and former rodeo champ as he is the latest artist invited to pay tribute to George Strait as part of a campaign leading up to the November 18th release of Strait Out of the Box: Part 2.

The 56-track box set covers the last 20 years of King George’s career with two never-before-heard tracks thrown in for good measure. Several artists have been asked to sing one of their favorite Strait hits from the last two decades. Johnson, who hit Number Two on the Billboard Country Albums chart this summer with his sixth independent album, selected a song that made its biggest impact in the month of October.

“My favorite has to be ‘You Look So Good in Love,'” Johnson said. “Here’s to you, George.”

Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 arrives exclusively in Walmart stores on November 18th. Hear Cody Johnson sing “You Look So Good In Love” in the video below.
