College A Cappella Group’s Stunning ‘Free Bird’ Arrangement Will Give You Goosebumps

ASU TEMPEtations YouTube Channel

Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s classic song “Free Bird” is regarded as one of the greatest songs in all of rock history. If you’ve been to any concert of any kind, we’re sure that at some point in time you’ve heard someone from the group shout “Free Bird!” It’s become somewhat of a concert tradition for such requests to be made.

But in addition to being one of Skynyrd’s most well-known songs, “Free Bird” is arguably one of the most complex as well. That’s why when you hear someone shout the song’s title at another artist’s concert, that artist usually doesn’t step up to the challenge. However, when they do, the result is often amazing.

If someone were to shout “Free Bird!” at the Arizona State University TEMPEtations concert in 2013, they were prepared. The co-ed a cappella group stepped on stage and stunned the audience when they opened their mouths and started singing a stripped down version of Skynyrd’s iconic song.

While Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” is known for its intense guitar solos and crazy instrumentals, the TEMPEtations didn’t need a single instrument. Instead, their voices alone carried the weight of the song, as they not only sang the lyrics, but the music itself.

Their harmonies are stunning, and when you hear them sing “and this bird you can not change,” you are sure to get goosebumps all over your body. Overall, the whole performance is an immense showcase of unbelievable musical talent. Tune in to it below and see and hear for yourself.

We’re sure you’ve never heard “Free Bird” like this before!
