Comedian Hysterically Blasts Modern Country Songs In Mock Performance
on Mar 08, 2017
Comedian Bo Burnham gave his audience a country concert of his own when he critically deemed modern country as not “honest”, cueing an intro to give a comically driven performance poking fun at modern country songs. The comedian kicked off his performance by expressing his gratitude for the greats, such as Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, as he explained, “I think some of the greatest songwriters of all time are country artists… If you’re writing honestly, that is art!”
However, Burnham had quite a different view for “modern country music”, calling it quite frankly “the exact opposite of honest”. Admitting that artists no longer sing of genuine stories, the comedian addressed his frustration with millionaires banking off lyrics of hard work although they’ve “never done a hard day’s work in their life” and continue to profit off the lives of those that do. With that, a country-themed instrumental filled the venue and Burnham took his audience on a wild ride as he dissected the lyrics to current country songs.
The audience was splitting with laughter as Burnham’s voice adopted a not too shabby southern accent, singing components of what he believed composed modern country songs. “I walk and talk like a field hand/ But the boots I’m wearing cost three grand/ I wrote songs about riding tractors/ From the comfort of a private jet,” he sang!
Adding various dialogue and hilarious jokes, Burnham without a doubt conveyed his argument in perhaps one of the funniest skits we’ve ever seen! After hearing his audience’s roaring applause, we’d think they must agree!
