As part of a new series for NASCAR, this popular driver goes back in time and relives some of the most significant moments of his career at a track that has had a profound impact on his life.
During the 2001 Pepsi 400, Dale Earnhardt Jr. honored his father in one of the most incredible ways possible, taking home an iconic win at Daytona International Speedway – just five months after his father was tragically killed at that same track.
“If they make any kind of movie relative to my life, it’ll probably be about that win,” He said, still in awe. “It was just hard to believe; too good to be true.”
Swiftly moving from sixth place all the way up to leading the race, Dale Jr. took home the win with just five laps left – a moment that would forever stay in his memory.
“You watch that race and you just see how that car was,” He says with a slight grin. “How competitive that car was and how dominant that car was – it made you feel like there wasn’t nothin’ you couldn’t do.”
Throughout this nearly four-minute-long video, Dale Jr. relives some of the biggest moments of his career at that fateful track that has been a big part of his life. Beyond the 2001 Pepsi 400, he also opens up about the 2004 Daytona 500, short-pitting, and the laps he took that felt like they’d never end.
