Dale Jr. Relives Heartbreaking Childhood In Tearful Letter To His Mom

Sitting down in front of the cameras, the famous NASCAR star read the letter aloud that he had written to his beloved mother in honor of the upcoming holiday.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. had no idea that his mom, Brenda Jackson, would be listening when producers asked him to write a letter to her for the holiday and then read it to the cameras, but that only made the moment so much more special.

In his beautifully-written letter, Dale Jr. gets emotional talking about one of the hardest decisions his mom had to make when he was just a child – a story that could bring any mother or son to tears.

“But I think back as a 6-year-old kid,” He said after expressing his incredible appreciation for her bringing him into the world with his father. “You a single mother, us losing everything in a house fire. You gave custody of us two kids to our father, knowing that he could provide a promising future.”

As the camera pans across Dale Jr.’s face, you can hear him get choked up just a little bit, and when it shows his mom listening in the other room, her eyes begin to well up with tears.

“I remember your 12-hour round trips for your summer visit,” He says, recalling the special moments that he got to spend with her while living with his father. “I remember your Norfolk apartment floor covered in presents each Christmas.”

“I’m thankful that we are together today, as I am now older and wiser to appreciate the sacrifices that you made for us. You never failed at making me feel loved. I love you. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.”

At the end of his letter, he is sitting with his back to the door and looks down at the letter when all of a sudden his mother emerges through the door in a surprise twist that had them both beaming with smiles.
