Two-time Grammy-award winning Darius Rucker took the stage at CMA Country Christmas for a chilling rendition of John Lennon’s heartbreaking “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” back in 2013.

Backed by a children’s choir, Rucker pulled off a glorious rendition of Lennon’s haunting Christmas tune. Matched by the skillful harmonization of the choir, the “Wagon Wheel” singer exudes emotion through his delivery of the powerful lyrics.

“Happy Xmas (War is Over)” was written and recorded by Lennon and Yoko Ono back in 1972. While not immediately met with rave reviews upon its release, over time the song has become a fixture in the holiday season. Following the tragic death of Lennon, the song soared to No.4 on the charts, with the chilling lyrics taking on a completely new meaning.

You can watch Rucker’s rendition of the Christmas tune in the video below.
