Willie Nelson super fan Allison Dickson was greeted with her coveted opportunity of a lifetime when her attempts to meet the country outlaw were finally granted with a little help from a nearby angel. For the duration of her life, Dickson has suffered from spinal muscular dystrophy, a disease that rids individuals of their strength or mobility by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord. However, despite this devastating diagnosis, Dickson has maintained a positive outlook and refused to let her disease define her success and ambition.
A dedicated fan of the "Always On My Mind" singer, Dickson became aware of Nelson's upcoming concert near her home, becoming the extra push this tenacious young woman needed to diligently find a source that would allow her to meet the legend. "I knew this concert in my backyard was likely my one best chance to make it happen," she told Baptist News. However, the woman's efforts were continuously crushed as she was told that Nelson did not meet fans prior to performances.
In a strange change of events, Dickson was contacted by Nelson's daughter, Paula, who explained that she had caught wind of the woman's story through a coworker and was determined to make this seemingly hopeless dream come true! Paula, fulfilling her promise, brought Dickson backstage just before Nelson's highly anticipated concert and gave this inspirational gem a moment she will never forget.
"We spent five to 10 minutes with Willie, and then he took the stage to a sold-out crowd and gave an awesome show," Dickson said. We're sure Paula's admirable kindness is something that will continue to reside in the hearts of viewers and Dickson, herself. Cheers for this happy ending!
