Dolly Parton Returns To Her ‘Pure & Simple’ Roots With Release Of Single

Dolly Parton has written many love songs over the years, many of which have gone on to become beloved country classics. Just look at her single “I Will Always Love You,” which wasn’t only a smash hit for Parton, but for R&B artist Whitney Houston as well.

But Parton’s newest love song is unlike any other she’s ever done. The song serves as the title track of Parton’s upcoming album Pure & Simple, and its message embodies its name completely. 

Parton released the song as a single on Thursday (July 7), and also revealed the release date for the entire album as August 19th. Of the album, which consists primarily of love songs, Parton told The Huffington Post the project means a lot to her.

“This new ‘Pure and Simple’ project is really special to me because I’m taking my fans back to my roots,” she said. “I feel like these songs have a pure, tender side and we didn’t go overboard with arrangements.“

Parton certainly didn’t go overboard with “Pure & Simple” the single, which has a sugary-sweetness to it that will bring a smile to your face. While the single wasn’t officially released until now, Parton performed it during a filmed interview with Home & Family on June 1.

Strumming along on her guitar, Parton told the story of a great love, singing, “It’s so pure, it’s almost sacred. Simply put it feels divine. I just love you, pure and simple. Pure and simple, sweet and fine.” 

Parton finished off the song by humming along to the tune, and the crowd went wild with cheers and applause. Check out the performance yourself in the video below.
