Despite sharing an undeniable bond, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner will forever remain the couple that never was.

A duet between the two country singers was a staple of the Wagoner’s hit television series, one of the most recognizable being the heartbreaking “Just Someone I Used to Know.”

“Just someone I used to spend some time with/ Just a flame that’s lost its glow,” they sang together. “But I don’t tell them of the nights I cried without you/ I say just someone I used to know.”

After seven years of appearing on The Porter Wagoner Show, Parton made the difficult decision to leave the show and end her professional relationship with Wagoner, inevitably resulting in one of her career defining singles, “I Will Always Love You.”

The classic duet was released under the stage name “Dolly Rebecca,” hitting country radio in the early 1970’s and going on to become one of the most famous songs to come out of The Porter Wagoner Show.
