It’s human nature to overthink the simplest things. For example, you can spill one glass of water and suddenly feel like the whole world is crashing down around you.
On the other hand, people can take a good situation and somehow twist it into a problem. For instance, you find yourself with an entire plate of chocolate chip cookies and now face the daunting task of needing to eat them all.
In both cases, people make these issues out to be far greater than they are. It’s such issues that Trace Adkins sings about in one of his newest songs, “Country Boy Problems.”
Rather than addressing the minor inconveniences in life, “Country Boy Problems” focuses on the too-many-cookies type of situations. It covers all sorts of good problems a country boy could have, such as needing to buy more beer to fill a cooler of ice, or having a girlfriend whose legs are too long to rest them up on the dash of his truck.
Adkins addresses these “Country Boy Problems” in a video interview for his “Story Behind the Song” series on his YouTube channel. In the interview, he admits that we often focus too much on small issues that aren’t as much of a problem as we think they are.
“Let’s just all kind of keep things in perspective,” he said. “Sometimes problems that we think we have, [they’re] not really that big of a deal. And that’s kinda what this song is about.”
Adkins also took the time to discuss his favorite sort of problems, and it turns out that he thinks country boy problems are the best ones to have. “Much better than city problems,” he joked.
