While no one will ever equal the original recording by the great Elvis Presley, Andrea Bocelli may have come the closest yet. The Italian tenor delivers a dreamy rendition of the King’s “Love Me Tender” that will have you weak in the knees.
“Now Elvis Presley was a rock and roller, but he did have some great love songs,” explained the host as to why a singer like Bocelli would choose to cover an artist with such a vastly different style of music.
Bocelli gave an opera-like makeover to Presley’s hypnotizing love song, quickly met with an overwhelming round of applause. The Italian cross-over singer’s enchanting delivery of “Love Me Tender” is just shy of perfection, the only thing that would make it better being if The King was there to sing alongside him.
“Love Me Tender” was recorded by Presley in 1956 as an adaptation of the Civil War song, “Aura Lee”. The song hit No.1 on the Billboard charts where it remained for an impressive five consecutive weeks.
