YouTube/Country Road TV

Decked out in a cowboy hat and sporting his classic hairstyle this country crooner pours his heart and soul out into a rare acoustic set featuring his classic cover of George Jones‘ “Ol Red”.

Sitting squarely in the middle of a group of country greats that include the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton gives a little back story to the tune that cemented him as one of the biggest country stars of the modern era.

“Ol Red” became one of Shelton’s first No. 1 singles after he kicked off his career in country music and his luscious locks were a signature look for him way back in the early 2000s.

The song is written about a man in jail after committing a crime of passion after discovering an affair with his lover. Ol Red is the name of the warden’s bloodhound that’s used to track escaping inmates. Eventually, the narrator escapes by using another dog in a bait-and-switch tactic and the two dogs eventually have a litter of pups together.

Since the release of his version, “Ol Red” has become one of the most popular and requested songs during his concerts and live shows.
