George Jones & Connie Smith Captivate With ‘Golden Ring’

Country legends George Jones and Connie Smith captivate the crowd with their performance of country classic “Golden Ring” live at “George Jones and Friends 50th Anniversary Tribute Concert” in 2007.

The two country stars share center stage during their performance of the unorthodox love song and captivates the crowd entirely. The pair harmonize the duet, perfectly holding one another’s gaze throughout.

The song is about a man who proposed to his girlfriend with a simple pawnshop golden ring and how their journey together from that moment on ended with the ring making its way back to the pawnshop. You meet the couple so in love but then get torn apart by money problems with the wife throwing her “golden ring” to the floor of their small two bedroom apartment after declaring she “doesn’t love him anymore.”

“Golden ring with one tiny little stone, shining ring now at last it’s found a home,” they sing at the start of the song. The song conclude the ring’s journey with “Golden ring with one tiny little stone, cast aside like the love that’s dead and gone.”

“Golden Ring” gave name to the 1976 duet album by George Jones and Tammy Wynette and hit No.1 on U.S Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
