As a proud Texan, George Strait knew he had to do something after he saw just how bad Hurricane Harvey affected his home state.
Sharing an article a few hours after the hurricane made landfall, Strait wrote, “We are working on putting together relief efforts along with the whole country music community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected by the storm. My family was personally affected along with many friends in Houston and Rockport and surrounding areas. God bless us all.“
According to The Hollywood Reporter, celebrities are coming together to put on a telethon titled Hand in Hand: A Benefit For Hurricane Harvey Relief. It is being organized by rapper Bun B and famed manager Scooter Braun, who both had a hand in putting together Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester benefit concert.
As announced on his Facebook page, Strait will be playing a “special benefit show at The Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, TX on September 12 with Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Robert Earl Keen, and Lyle Lovett as part of the Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief fundraiser. Tickets for the show will be on sale tomorrow, September 6, at 10AM CST. All proceeds will go to those affected by the storm.”
The aforementioned singers aren’t the only people from the country music community lending a helping hand. Blake Shelton and Walk The Line actress Reese Witherspoon will be hosting the Nashville portion of Hand in Hand from the Grand Ole Opry House, according to Music Row.
Not every performance at the Texas benefit show will be aired on television, but all the proceeds from the concert’s ticket sales will be going straight to those affected by the storm.
