Glen Campbell’s Daughter Duets ‘Gentle On My Mind’ With His Longtime Bandmate

The world was devastated back in 2011 when country music icon Glen Campbell announced that he had been quietly battling Alzheimer’s for the previous six months. As the disease progressed, the singer made the decision to go on a farewell tour with three of his children, one of them being his beautifully talented daughter Ashley. Unfortunately, the country legend passed away on August 8, 2017.
Ashley, age 30, teamed up with her father’s longtime bandmate and songwriting partner, Carl Jackson, for a meaningful duet of her father’s signature song, “Gentle on My Mind.” In a display of musical talent, the young singer stayed true to the nature of her father’s original song, playing the banjo while singing the words her fatherhas echoed many times before.
Ashley released a song about her father’s heartbreaking battle with Alzheimer’s titled “Remembering,” the song going on to win a Grammy as well as an Oscar nomination.
“Gentle on My Mind” was originally released by the song’s writer John Hartford in 1968, Campbell taking on the song after hearing the folk singer’s version on the radio. The tune went on to win four Grammy Awards in 1968, two going to Hartford and two to Campbell for his version.
