As Glen Campbell battled Alzheimer’s Disease, it was his wife, Kim, who devoted herself to being his caregiver. She wrote about her experiences in caring for Glen on her blog, careliving.org, hoping to provide support to others in her same situation.

Kim was by her husband’s side when he took his final breath on August 8. She wrote about the moment in a letter that was shared on careliving.org a week after Glen had passed away.

I had been praying that I would be able to hold his hand when he entered eternity, and my request was granted,” Kim wrote. “While surrounded by family, I watched him take his last breath.

Glen was laid to rest on August 9 during a private ceremony in his hometown of Delight, Arkansas. His family decided to later host a public memorial in his honor, which took place on Thursday (August 24) at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville.

For those who were unable to attend the memorial, Kim took to careliving.org to share the eulogy she wrote. The emotional piece opens with Kim issuing her “final goodbye” to her husband and detailing how devoted he was to his faith:

“You’ll notice in any video you see of Glen singing ‘Rhinestone Cowboy,’ that he never failed to point towards heaven when he sang the line, ‘I want to be where the light is shining on me.'”

In the main part of the eulogy, Kim speaks of watching the solar eclipse that took place on Monday (August 21). She compares the experience to that of Glen’s death, saying she wasn’t as prepared for it as she thought:

“Although I was prepared, I’d read all the articles, studied the science, spoken to friends and knew what to expect – it took everything I had to face the sun as it went dark. And then he was gone.”

Kim concludes her eulogy by saying how she now finds comfort in the fact that her husband is finally at peace. “Glen is truly where the light is shining on him now – and for all eternity,” she wrote.
