The Britain’s Got Talent judges were given the shock of a lifetime when one contestant brushed off an insult from the notorious Simon Cowell and stunned his audience with a surprise performance.
Taking to the show in 2013, Patrick George, a pastor, introduced his act as “a gospel choir,” eliciting confused expression on the judges’ faces. However, it was Cowell that gave this encounter a snarky turn when he commented, “Did you eat [the choir]?”
While the audience began to boo the judge, George brushed off the remark and even poked fun at himself over Cowell’s words while rolling with the sass. As the jolly pastor began his act, he motioned to the box seats above the stage, prompting a group of four women to shoot up and kick off their surprise intro.
“I open my mouth to the Lord/ And I won’t turn back/ I will go,” they sang a cappella. The judges quickly turned their chairs to face the various performers that continued to appear throughout the venue in groups of four.
Before long, the stage was swarming with performers eager to share their faith and incredible talent. George led his members through their performance, flawlessly blending their unique voices to produce an angelic sound that had the audience erupting with applause.
The judges were taken aback by the gospel performance given by the group, who go by the name Gospel Singers Incognito, admitting that they had not expected such a heart-stopping performance.
