Ben Haggard Singing Willie Nelson’s ‘It Will Always Be’ Is The Only Thing You Need To Hear Today

Now this is pure country, y’all.

The late Merle Haggard left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten, thanks to his sons, Noel, Marty, and Ben. After he passed away on his 79th birthday in April 2016, he was in the middle of a tour, which his sons later finished for him.

Ben, who is his youngest son and played lead guitar in his legendary band The Strangers up until his death, often posted videos of himself covering his famous dad’s songs.

He has gained a loyal fan base of his own who know him as Ben, not just “Merle Haggard’s son”. Occasionally, Ben performs hits that were made famous by his dad’s famous friends including Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson.

In his latest cover video, he sings Nelson’s song “It Will Always Be” and calls it “one of the best songs ever written by Willie Nelson“.

“It Will Always Be” was included on Nelson’s 2004 album of the same name. Sitting in a room covered in portraits of his dad and the King of Western Swing, Bob Wills, Ben’s performance mesmerized us.

Fans on YouTube have recognized his talent, with one saying, “THIS is what REAL country sounds like…most of the new country ‘stars’ today can’t even hold a candle to Ben.”

What do you think of his performance? Watch his cover of “It Will Always Be” below.
