In a new interview, the widower confesses that he was upset because his late wife made good decisions, yet still was diagnosed with cancer and that he was truly affected by the confusion for some time.
Rory Feek, one half of country and gospel duo, Joey + Rory, lost his beautiful and loving wife in March of this year and has been learning how to adjust to life without her while still grieving from an unimaginable loss.
In late 2015, the duo announced to their fans that Joey had been diagnosed with a late-stage cancer and that they were returning home “not to die, but to live” and enjoy their remaining time together as best they could – instead of spending it fighting a losing battle in a doctor’s office.
In a new interview with People, Rory reveals that he was left ‘confused’ by her passing.
“She made good decisions and took care of herself…and yet she got cancer,” he says with the pain of his loss showing as he recalls those feelings. “For a while that upset me and disappointed me – and mostly confused me because you see so many people in the world who are unhealthy…like really, really unhealthy – not even trying. And she tried so hard…”
It’s obvious that he went through a significant period of time struggling with this emotion of “why us” or “why her” as he tried to work his way through the pain, heartbreak, and sadness.
He goes on to discuss how they stayed in her hometown with her family for what became months because of her deep connection to her loved ones.
“She loved her time with her sisters and her mom and dad,” he says, adding “and I wanted her to be where she wanted to be.”
