One massive dog took on an even bigger role as a hero when he immediately jumped into a lake to rescue a baby deer as it helplessly fell below the water.

Storm, an English golden retriever, was quickly seen paddling through water to meet the frightened animal upon the beginning of the recorded event. Viewers were shocked as they witnessed the dog darting into the lake to grab hold of the deer, quickly pulling it back to safety on the shore.

“Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore,” owner Mark Freeley told CBS New York.

“Bring him in,” Freeley was heard yelling. “I think he’s trying to save him.” The furry hero successfully brought the helpless animal to shore, tailing him as he attempted to dart away from the scene. As the deer hit the sand, Storm lied besides him as he began to lick his ears and verify that the small animal was in good health.

Whimpering through his post-rescue moment with his new friend, the dog diligently fawned over the animal and remained beside his new pal for comfort. “Good job, buddy,” the shocked owner congratulated his pup, stunned by the quick actions that saved this baby’s life.
