A 76-year-old woman was given the gift of a lifetime when her wish to see country music star Josh Turner was not only granted, but given an extra dose of special when the crooner publicly dedicated his performance of “Long Black Train” to the fan. Kay Ray, currently battling a terminal illness while residing at Crossroads Hospice, was given the opportunity to meet the star, an experience that she told 41 Action News gave her immense butterflies! “It was fantastic. It was like a dream come true,” she explained.
Although the woman’s meet and greet with the southern gentleman was exclusive from cameras and recordings, Kay was given an emotional shoutout from the star during his live performance! As the recording began, Turner asked his tech crew, “Can we get a spotlight on Miss Kay over here? She’s down here, literally in the corner.” A spotlight quickly found the woman who was welcomed with cheers and applause as Turner spoke fondly of the custom shirt the fan was sporting.

“I don’t want to get too weepy here, but, the fact of the matter is, she’s battling a terminal illness and it was her wish to come here and meet me tonight and be here,” Turner told his audience. After an uproarious applause for the strong woman, Turner joked with Kay what had privately expressed to the singer that her true age was twenty-one! “The ‘local news media’ kind of leaked your age,” Turner laughed.
Thanking Kay for being a fan and joining him at his concert, Turner dedicated his subsequent performance to inspiring woman, admitting to the crowd that the fan had disclosed “Long Black Train” had been her favorite song.
