Country music star Kacey Musgraves has earned her stay with country music’s finest after her former musical breakthrough and her epic clean up of the 2014 CMA and Grammy Awards. While the dark-haired beauty has been granted an abundance of fairytale opportunities, including a duet with legendary Willie Nelson and the one and only Loretta Lynn, Musgraves gave us a tragic fairytale of our own in her deeply moving performance at the 2016 CMA Country Christmas.

Gracing a mesmerized audience on a dimly lit stage while showcasing a stellar silver dress complete with holiday sparkle, the singer performed perhaps one of the most heartbreaking holiday songs we’ve heard yet. Residing in her A Very Kacey Christmas album, the song titled “Christmas Always Makes Me Cry”, carries the heartbreak of one who dreads the holidays for its sheer emotional toll. Musgraves angelically sings, “It’s the ones we miss, no one to kiss under the mistletoe/ Another year gone by, just one more that I, I couldn’t make it home/ And I know that they say, “Have a happy holiday”/ And every year, I swear I sincerely try/ Oh, but Christmas, it always makes me cry.”

We’re sure the venue, as well as viewers, were a blubbering mess as Musgraves addressed the not so “happy” moments of the holidays that many do experience. Listen to her performance and tell us what you thought.
