What if two small town friends with star-studded dreams grew up to become two of the brightest rising stars in Nashville? Years and one killer duet later, Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina thrilled fans with an unexpected performance of their hit single “What Ifs” at a Nashville show back in January of this year.

Brown kicked off the performance solo, a smile erupting across his face just before the blonde beauty ran on stage just in time for the chorus. The longtime friends turned music partners were all smiles during their powerful delivery of the infectious duet, sealing the performance with an adorable embrace.

“Everyone give it up for Lauren Alaina!” said Brown after they perfectly executed the first chorus.

The longtime friends initially met in middle school choir class in their hometown of Rossville, Georgia, Alaina strongly encouraging a shy Brown to pursue music after hearing him sing in class one day.

The Georgia-native wrote “What Ifs” for his debut self-titled album alongside songwriters Matthew McGinn and Jordan Schmidt. The song tells the relatable story of two people afraid of falling in love and all the “What Ifs” that come along with pursuing a new relationship.

You can watch their surprise performance of “What Ifs” below.
