Keith Urban Performs Song Inspired By His Late Father

One day after winning big at the CMT Music Awards, Keith Urban took the stage at the HGTV Lodge during CMA Fest for an intimate show.

He began by thanking his fans for the incredible night he had just one day prior, winning all four awards he was nominated for. CMT Music Awards are fan voted, so winning these meant so much more to him.

He kicked off his performance with the first song off his latest album, Ripcord, titled “Gone Tomorrow Here Today”. Although the song is in a pretty upbeat tempo, the lyrics say it all.

“Gone tomorrow, here today
I ain’t gonna waste it
I ain’t gonna waste it
No, it’s gone tomorrow
But it’s here today
I won’t let it slip away”

“Gone Tomorrow Here Today” isn’t exactly a tribute to his late father, Robert Urban, who passed away in 2015, but according to Taste of Country, Keith was thinking about him when writing the song.

When you lose people, I think it shocks you into going, ‘Where did they go? I want to believe that there’s something more, but right now’s still real,” he said. “We’re never going to get time back.”

Fans were loving the emotional, yet rockin’ tune where he also showcased his incredible guitar skills with an insane solo towards the end of the song.

Watch him perform the song in one of the most intimate of settings below.
