Keith Urban Recruits Unsuspected Duet Partner For Unearthly Duet Of ‘The Fighter’

Trading in his typical duet partner of Carrie Underwood for a performance of their hit duet, Keith Urban performed a stripped down rendition of “The Fighter” at the Grand Ole Opry with the most unlikely vocalists to take on the role of the country songstress.

The country singer kicked off his performance with the song’s killer signature guitar solo, before singing the emotional lyrics he wrote about wife Nicole Kidman. Once Urban reached the chorus where Underwood typically joins in, he gestured to the audience members to join in and sing the song with him as a duet.

“We’re going to try this song that is a duet, but I am Carrie-less tonight,” said Urban prior to his performance according to Billboard. “So, I thought I could get somebody out of the audience to sing it, or I could think that there’s safety in numbers and get the whole tribe to sing tonight.”

“The Fighter” is the fifth single off Urban’s 2016 album Ripcord and was co-written and produced by the country singer. The hit song tells the story of a man sweetly trying to assure a fearful woman that he will take care of her no matter what and was inspired by the early days of his and Kidman’s relationship.
