Kid Rock & LeAnn Rimes Team Up To Perform ‘Picture’ On 2003 Christmas Special

Kid Rock Captures A Place In Country Music

In 2002, Kid Rock had a major hit on his hands with the country rock song “Picture.” Released late in the year as a single off of his album, Cocky, the song is still one of his most recognizable.

Originally, the song was recorded as a duet with pop/rock/country artist Sheryl Crow, who also co-wrote the song with Rock.

However, Crow’s label never gave Rock permission to release her recorded version of the song. As a result, Rock had country singer Allison Moorer record Crow’s parts of the song and featured her as his duet partner on the official single.

Although Crow’s label never granted permission for Rock to use her recording, some radio stations still chose to play her version, while others played Moorer’s. This resulted in both artists being credited as potential featured performers on the track.

A Success Any Way You Slice It

Regardless of which version of “Picture” people listened to, it seemed well-liked by audiences and peaked at the 21st spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

In addition, the song was a crossover pop hit, claiming the fourth spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was an even bigger hit in Canada, where it soared up to the second spot on the charts.

Over the years, Rock has performed “Picture” with various other female country singers, including Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert. But one of his best collaborations was with LeAnn Rimes during his 2003 televised Christmas special.

Joining A New Voice

Rimes does a stunning job at singing Crow/Moorer’s parts of the song, and even Rock was blown away by her voice. After she finished singing her first verse and chorus, Rock exclaimed “Oh man!

But the main “oh man!” moment came when Rock and Rimes started singing together for the first time. They fed off of each other’s energy so well, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d think Rimes had been his duet partner all along!

You can watch Rock and Rimes’ passionate performance of “Picture” below, and let us know what you think.

We hope that Rock and Rimes decide to sing together again sometime soon!
