We’re sure that plenty of people thought that Kid Rock was crazy when he came up with the idea to mash up two hit rock songs into a whole new piece. But it turns out that his idea wasn’t as crazy as it seemed.
By combining Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London” and Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s “Sweet Home Alabama,” Rock ended up with a song he titled “All Summer Long.” The tune serves as a sort of lyrical throwback, as Rock reflects on one youthful summer and the girl that made it worth remembering.
Since almost everyone has fond summer memories, “All Summer Long” was easily able to apply to a large audience. That, along with the inclusion of the two hit rock songs, made everything about it a recipe for success.
“All Summer Long” ended up becoming one of the biggest hits of Rock’s career. It was his first Top 10 hit on the country chart, and peaked at the fourth spot there. It also reached the second spot on the Adult Top 40 chart, the fourth spot on the US Mainstream Top 40 chart, and the 23rd spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
In addition, “All Summer Long” topped the charts in various countries around the world. Just a few of the many countries that saw the song reach number one included Austria, Switzerland, and the UK.
While Rock sings in the song about it being “summer time in Northern Michigan,” the official music video for “All Summer Long” was filmed in Nashville, Tennessee. The video shows Rock cruising around in a boat on Old Hickory Lake, as he sings about the treasured summer from his past.
There are also a few flashback scenes in the video, which show a young couple enjoying their time together during a summer down at the lake. These flashback scenes weave in and out of scenes showing Rock in the present day, as he enjoys a wild party on a big boat out in the lake.
We’re sure that watching this video will take you back to some fond summer memories of your own! Tune in below to check it out. Even if you’ve seen it before, you know it’s worth watching again!
