LeAnn Rimes Gives Her Own Rendition Of Merle Haggard’s “Silver Wings”

Shelley Mays/Tennessean

Starting her country music career at just 13-years-old, Mississippi-born LeAnn Rimes grew up with country legends surrounding her and this beautiful tribute to Merle Haggard proves just that…

When Haggard passed away on his 79th birthday (April 6th 2016), the internet was filled with grief and mourning for the loss of a legend with a seemingly endless number of artists beginning to perform covers of his songs, but one thing nearly went unnoticed!

Several years ago, Rimes published a stunning live recording of a Haggard classic, “The Bottle Let Me Down”, paying homage to her roots and singing one of her favorite country songs. It is one of the most beautiful covers of his song that has ever been sung.

Treating the audience to a blue-grassy take on the 1966 outlaw hit, Rimes gives Haggard’s No. 1 single a revived sound and truly heartfelt performance.

Watch this truly incredible performance in the video below and remember all the great things Merle Haggard blessed the world with!
