As a country singer, one of the greatest honors you can ever receive is being inducted as a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame recognizes only the best of the best, with legends such as Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and Merle Haggard among the inductees.
In 1988, one of country music’s most talented female vocalists got the chance to celebrate her own induction into the Hall of Fame. That woman was none other than Loretta Lynn.
Lynn’s talents as a singer, songwriter, and entertainer made her a perfect candidate for induction into the Hall of Fame. At that time, Lynn had nearly a dozen number one hits and a countless number of Top 10 singles. As one of the most beloved and best-selling artists in country music, it only made perfect sense to induct Lynn into the Hall of Fame.
Johnny Cash was tasked with introducing Lynn before her induction. He spoke beautifully about her talent as he explained why she was worthy of induction:
“She used her God-given gifts as a writer of songs, as a singer of songs, plus her courage, her determination, and just plain guts to rise above the poverty she’d always known…And because her music comes from the heart, she touched our very deepest, most personal emotions, and became an inspiration for millions. She was born a coal miner’s daughter, but she has become a country music legend.”
Once Cash finished speaking, Lynn threw herself into his arms in a fit of joy. Cash lifted her clear off the ground as he hugged her tight, all while the crowd gave Lynn a standing ovation.
We’re sure the excitement in the room was at an all-time high at that moment. Tune in below to watch Lynn’s priceless reaction to being inducted into the Hall of Fame. You’re sure to cry happy tears for her once you see how overjoyed she was.
